" There is an inherent dichotomy in landscape painting: the impossibility of painting from an external world without simultaneously referring to an internal one. Our routine but tenuous navigation of both these spaces makes the idea of “landscape” at once tedious and charged. It’s this human-centric tendency in interpreting landscape that interests me. The way we practice a kind of magical thinking or referential mania when we look to nuances in our physical surroundings for answers regarding our own condition. "
